There is nothing like a good James Bond movie to fill a relaxing afternoon at home. My husband and I look forward to the holidays for many reasons including the reruns of these classics that are offered on some cable channels. We love to spend a couple hours watching a James Bond movie before getting ready for holiday festivities.

Of course, these films are available on different channels throughout the year. The popular series of movies featuring this world-known espionage character can be found on the random weekend on occasion. This just wasn’t good enough for use. We liked the idea of watching a James Bond movie when we wanted to.

There are a lot of different films in this collection and there are a handful of talented actors who portrayed the famous character. While my husband and I do agree that none of the actors matched Sean Connery’s portrayal in the first James Bond movie but they were all great.

The very first film in a series is typically the best of the lot and this might be true in some people’s opinion about the first James Bond movie, Dr. No. I love the mystery involved in the film while my husband is much more interested in Ursula’s emergence from the water in the famous beach scene.

Even though the first James Bond movie is a favorite for many fans, I have to say that I favor Goldfinger. I guess that this film appeals to my gambling side as well as my sense of humor. I could watch it over and over again and I have.

The films just wouldn’t be the same without a good villain. The best of the best in the classic James Bond movie will have outstanding bad guys that are so intriguing that you almost root for them. This makes Goldfinger a top choice for me, too. He is a great bad guy.

The most recent James Bond movie offers a brand new hero and a new villain as well. I have heard so many great things about this flick that I am tempted to actually pay to see it. This is a brand new notion for us. We have never actually paid to see a James Bond movie before.

I guess that it’s time that we started. It would be nice to have a collection including the most recent James Bond movie. The only problem with this is that we might spend way too much time in front of the television.

Toy shopping

Here it comes – that time of the year. The time of the year when all kids are starting to make their Christmas lists and making sure their parents are up to date on all of the newest technologies and toys. It is also the time of the year when stores put more emphasis on advertising and making sure that everyone knows that their prices and sales are better than their competitors.

For some parents, such as myself, it is the season for toy shopping. I don’t enjoy it. My daughter has already started noticing all of the toys that the TV stations are advertising. She can’t write very well yet, but she’s made sure that I have already started a Christmas list for her. So it begins, toy shopping. Some parents will do it solely online. Some parents will wait in huge lines when the stores announce that a brand new, ever so popular toy hits the shelves. I have several friends who start doing their toy shopping the second that Halloween decorations disappear from the stores. Usually, they’re completely done with everything by the time Thanksgiving rolls around.

Toy shopping can become rather competitive too. Those who have camped out on sidewalks in the rain and wind just to get one of the few toys that the stores have on the shelves for a few seconds, know exactly what that means. Friendly banter that takes place while waiting in line disappears the moment those stores open their doors. Suddenly, it is every man for himself and people are diving across the aisles for the last toy on the shelf. Toy shopping can become a total nightmare. If you’re lucky enough to get the great deals and hot toys online, toy shopping can be a piece of cake. That’s how I tend to do my shopping. On Black Friday, I can be sitting happily in my house, wearing my comfortable pajamas and getting all of my presents delivered right to my doorstep. I usually get the same sales that people in the stores are getting, I just don’t have the advantage of examining the toys in my hand. However, I also don’t have to carry around heavy packages, fight for parking spaces and spend entirely too much
time waiting in lines.

So, when my daughter adds a few more things to her Christmas list every time she watches TV and circles some new toys in the flyers that the stores place in local newspapers, I’ll be able to scope them out on the internet. And all of my toy shopping will be done online.

Finding the perfect gift for dad can be pretty difficult in my family. My father is not the kind of guy who is easy to shop for, and with Christmas approaching, I was starting to get just a little bit worried I had already used up all of the normal gift ideas for dad. I had gotten him a watch the year before, a nice pocket knife the year before that, and all sorts of other doodads and gizmos on his birthdays.

I wanted to do something different this year. When I gave it to him at Christmas, he was really happy with it. You can also bet that a Chardonnay from Oregon will have a crisp hint of apple in its flavor. You can make nice food and wine pairings that work with the undertones in the drink.

Considering this, you don’t necessarily have to subject yourself to the food and wine rule: reds with red meats, whites with fish and poultry. If you prefer red wine even though you are having fish, then choose red. There are plenty of nice options to consider that have lighter, fruity undertones.

The bottom line: choose what you like. Wine and food work together well and they should be enjoyed. Sure, you can maximize the flavors by making the right pairings but if you find yourself stressing over your choices, you just need to take a step back. You can’t go wrong with good food and wine no matter how you match them.

Okay, here it goes; before you tear open that Visa or MasterCard pitch you just pulled from the mailbox, I want you to remember one important detail. The 0% APR on balance transfers only lasts for a year and it never applies to purchases. Therefore if you don’t have any balances to transfer, I would seriously consider ditching the card. Or better yet, flip it over and take a gander at the APR for purchases and cash withdrawals. I’d be willing to bet it’s sky-high. Hey, they always are. The credit card companies are trying to hook you with the fat 0 on the front of the document. Rip up the pitch and toss it in the trash can. It’s imperative to do a credit card comparison before accepting any offers.

The world of plastic is not like it was in the beginning. It no longer comes down to what you receive in the mailbox. It’s a synch to surf the web and do a routine credit card comparison. Pull up everything MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express have to offer. See who currently has the lowest APR that applies to your needs. By this I mean if you’re doing a balance transfer, you’ll want 0% on this; if you want a credit card for purchasing, you’ll want the lowest APR possible on purchases and so on. 0 APR doesn’t count for anything if you don’t reap the benefits from it. I had my eldest daughter do a credit card comparison last week on her laptop. She had plenty of difficulty pinpointing an interest rate that she actually wanted to pay each month. Ha, big surprise there. None of us can find these.

It’s difficult to keep that APR down! Even after doing a prudent and thorough credit card comparison on the web, and finding that card you need, you’ll still run into annoying increases. Credit card companies are notorious for doing this. Just when you think all is going well, they raise your APR. Now, there probably isn’t even a reason for it. They raise it because they can. Does this really surprise anyone? I doubt it. Anyway, then you’ll be on the phone trying to convince them to lower it back to the original decent APR. Good times!
