New Ways To Look At The Meaning Of Words

As children in grade school, we learn the alphabet and then go on to vocabulary lists. Teachers, as well as conversations with friends and parents help to build our vocabulary. Soon we’re talking up a storm. Later we learn to use the dictionary to look up the meaning of words with which we’re not familiar and to learn new ones.

Interested In a Haunted House?

When it comes to ghosts and the supernatural, everyone has their own opinion about what is real and what is not. There are some who swear they have had an experience that proves without a shadow of a doubt that there is more going on in our world than most of us know. Others are dead sure that there is no such activity, and that those who believe are just plain nuts. Though the years there have been so many stories that you have to wonder just what is really going on. If you are one of these people, you may just want to stay overnight in what is considered a haunted house.

Chinese Fortune Cookie

Ode To Delicious Chinese Fortune Cookies

Ever since I was a little kid, I have loved Chinese fortune cookies. I think it has as much to do with the associations I have with them as with their actual flavor. I used to love going to the Chinese restaurant with my parents. I loved everything about it. I loved the little ornamental lamps and Buddhist statues around the place, I loved the murals with dragons and warriors on them, but most of all I loved the food. Is England And Heaven The Same Place?

I go to England, poor and broke
Ask for dole, see Labour folk
Fill in form and stand around
White man give me twenty pounds
Thank him much and then he say
Come next week and get more pay

You come here, we make you wealthy
Doctor too, make you healthy
Send for friends from Pakistan
Tell them come as quick as can

Plenty of us all on the dole
With motor car and big bank roll
Come with me, we live together
One bad thing, the bloody weather

All get nicely settled down
Find big house in busy town
Fifteen families living up
Twice as many living down
More in gardens live in tents

Soon we send for wife and kids
White man gives me lots more quids
Twelve months later buy a Rolls
Still go Labour draw more doles

White man soon may rebel
lets just see, time will tell
We think it kind of funny
They keep giving lots of money

Some do say, they are berks
We dont mind, we call them jerks
Once a week the mail arrive
The white mans money helps us survive

White man pay for all my bills
Cuz we win, battle of wills
Bless all white man, big and small
For paying tax to keep us all

We think England dam good place
Too dam good for white man race
If them not like coloured man
Plenty room in Pakistan

God bless you all

Jerks!!

Brain Teasers To Pass The time Away

There are lots of ways to pass time on a trip. Of course, there are conversations, card games, listening to music, and even having sing-alongs. But my favorite way to pass the time during those long miles is with brain teasers.

Usually, we will find some free printable brain teasers on the Internet before we go on a car trip. There are all kinds of online puzzles and games available that you can either print out or play on your computer. The kids especially love them, and it is easy to find one to the right level of difficulty. Most of them are simple logic puzzles that, with a little bit of diligent work, can be quite easily resolved. Finding hard brain teasers is, of course, a little bit difficult, but it can be done.

Sudoku puzzles are a great form of brainteaser. Sudokus are basically a type of logic puzzle that has become very popular in recent years. They are different rows and columns of numbers that you have to get to match up in just the right way. The only way to do it is through trial and error. You look at the pattern, try to find numbers that match it, And work through it until you find the right combination.

Of course, one of the most classic brain teasers is the crossword puzzle. Papers all over the world have crossword puzzles, but my favorite one is in the New York Times Sunday edition. New York Times puzzles get harder and harder as the week goes on, and the Sunday New York Times always has the most difficult puzzle. I know a lot of people who spend all Sunday doing brain teasers in the Times. Now that is dedication!

If you want to get a truly great assortment of brainteasers, you have to go to a good bookstore. There are plenty of online brainteasers, but if you are a big fan you probably need to just bite the bullet and buy a book. After all, it is nice to have a whole book filled with logic puzzles so that you can go through them, page after page at your leisure. The way that I do it is to download some free puzzles on the Internet to see which ones I like. Then, when I find a style that fits me, I buy a brain teaser book. I usually have two or three for a long road trip.

Interracial Relationships

The world sure is an ever-changing animal. Just when you think you have a grasp on what’s going on, something will change. It always does. I guess that’s the beauty of life and evolution. Unfortunately not everyone welcomes change. Some folks are so dead-set in their ways that they can never adapt to nuances. So much has to do with the experiences they’ve endured in their lives. Many people still expect everyone to date only within their own race. They feel that it’s not right to condone interracial relationships. Some will say the world is complicated enough as it is. However, we don’t exactly get to choose who we fall for.

It’s funny, but if I were to ask my grandmother about interracial relationships, she would make some comment concerning the Japanese. A race of people she still refers to as “the Japs.” Needless to say, she’s prejudice against this group of people. Her anger and fears stem from WWII. This is a race of people she has trouble seeing in a positive light. Therefore if I were to date a Japanese girl, she would hate it. Well, I’m certain that some individuals deal with this on a routine basis. These days you have plenty of interracial relationships in the USA and abroad. Some parents are fine with this, and some are not. I will say that while I don’t frown upon interracial relationships in general, I can imagine that it would make life a bit more difficult for the parties involved. Some people will never be able to accept the changes. So if you’re in an interracial relationship, be ready for some ridicule, staring and criticism. It goes with the territory.

There are online websites designed for interracial relationships. You can actually get on the web and meet other singles like yourself. There are plenty of singles out there in search of interracial relationships. On that note, hopefully the world’s ability to accept change will only grow. I do think we’re heading toward a future of possibilities, open-mindedness, and plenty of diversity. Hey, God made us all different for a reason. It only makes sense to embrace the beauty of variety.

Irish Pubs

I have lived all over the country and in many parts of the world, and I am convinced that there is not a major city anywhere on earth that doesn’t have at least one Irish pub. Irish pubs, as a matter of fact, are one of the only cultural symbols whose significance is universally constant – they are known around the world as good places to get a drink, watch soccer, and meet friendly people. I have seen people who hate folk music and have never met a single Irishman singing Irish pub songs on the street while drunk on a Sunday afternoon.

For a long time, I thought all Irish pubs were the same. You see, the Irish pubs San Francisco has are almost the same as the New York ones, and the Chicago ones are not much different. Basically, although it is hard to point to any one thing, there is a certain Irish bar atmosphere that stays the same. The walls are usually wood-paneled, the crowd is friendly and populated heavily with locals and regulars, and beer and whiskey are always the specialties. Often, there are live performers at night and at the very least there is usually an open mic night at least once a week. Based on this, I thought I knew what an Irish pub was like. Before I went to Ireland, however, I have no real idea.

You see, the marketing of Gaelic culture is like the marketing of any other culture – it picks up on a few aspects that are easy to translated to sell around the world and goes with them. Irish Spring soap, for example, can sell because everyone knows that Ireland is green and therefore, fresh and clean. Similarly, Irish pubs do so well because everyone knows that the Irish like to drink stout beer, eat potatoes – excellent bar food – and have a raucous good time when drunk. German pubs – inhabited by stereotypically dour Germans – have not had the same success, although the Germans can drink every bit as well as the Irish. Even English pubs don’t have the reputation.

Nonetheless, authentic Irish culture is much different than you would believe from your typical Irish pubs in this country. If you go to Ireland as a matter of fact, you are definitely stepping into unfamiliar territory. The people are friendly once they get to know you, but when you first step into a small Irish bar in an unfamiliar town, you are definitely made conscious of the fact that you are a stranger. It is not the same anything goes atmosphere as in this country.
